Shipboard Medical Facilities
A limited emergency medical locker is maintained on board with access controlled by the Master. A few first aid supplies are available in the scientific store.
Medication for controlling seasicknessis not supplied.
Members of the scientific party are expected to bring any medications that they anticipated needing.
Medical Advisory Service: For serious illnesses or injuries while at sea, STRI has a contract with a 24-hour medical advisory service (MAS), which provides direct communication with an emergency room physician. MSA requests that all members of the scientific party provide medical data through completion of the medical history questionnaire.

The Chief Scientist should judge the health and medical conditions of each member of the Scientific Party to assess the liability they pose to the scientific mission. In the event of a serious injury or medical emergency, scientific work will be terminated and the ship will be moved as necessary to facilitate evacuation of the patient to the nearest competent medical facility.
